DoubleStitch at City Knits

Saturday, December 6th was City Knits 6th B-day. To celebrate they invited the DoubleStitch Twins to come and do a book signing and discuss their career. Erika and Monika were both enlightening. They began to crochet in the 4th grade, but actually stopped for 20yrs before picking the hook up again. They brought along some of their creations from the book, "DoubleStitch" to show to the audience.

Here is Erika demonstrating how to wear the cape and the different ways to tie it to create different lines. Monika is at the table wearing the poncho from the book.
Here again is Erika showing the back of the apron from the book. Monika and Star Christina are looking on.

And here is Erika pairing a cropped bolero with the apron to create a much different look. These girls are creative geniuses. I applaud them in their work and wish them continued success. It was fun to hear them discuss their love of all things fiber.

New Toy

I just got this Friday and I am having so much fun with it. It has good sound and fast internet. I like the fact that I can have faves. That helps. The set up is pretty easy. I did have to figure out the voicemail setup, but it was okay. The screen is small so I more than likely will use my Nokia N800 to watch movies and videos. I can even interface the G1 with my N800, how cool. So, basically this is my early Christmas present to myself.

If I Was the Color Green Which Would I Be?

You Are Emerald Green
Deep and mysterious, it often seems like no one truly gets you.
Inside, you are very emotional and moody - though you don't let it show.
People usually have a strong reaction to you... profound love or deep hate.
But you can even get those who hate you to come around. There's something naturally harmonious about you.

FO's and Projects Underway

Here is my very first granny square ever. Its for the "Blushing Grannies" afghan. I'm doing it in fall colors and calling it "Autumn Grannies" These things are super easy. I have 5 done now and am enjoying making them. I really wanted something that reminded me of all the colors of fall seeing that its my fav season and I'm a fall baby. I can't wait to finish this,
Here is the MC hat from "Get Your Crochet On: Hip Hats and Cool Caps". I made this for my mom because she wanted a new b-ball hat for the winter and the "Soldier" is like for spring/summer because of the openness of the top. This was real easy to make and only took me a day. Inserting the round elastic cord was a different technique for me. It really made the hat have that extra stretch. I hope she likes it.
This is the back of the Uncle Argyle Scarf from "Son of Stitch and Bitch" I'm making this for my sister. This thing is so slow. Double Knitting and following a chart makes for slow knitting. I'm hoping to have this done for her x-mas present.
This is the front.
Here is my muff that I put on hold since 2005. I'm glad I finished it. Now I'm ready for winter at Greenfield Village. Yeah!!!!!!!

Time for Change!!!!

Say hello to our new 1st family. The Obama's. I say congrats to the U.S.A for choosing change over 4 more years of stupidity. Now I will pray that this man and his family will safely serve his 4 years in Washington. I do commend McCain for conceding his bid for presidency and being the bigger man than Bush would have been if this was him. I hope McCain lives up to his promise to help our new President in the coming 4 years. I am overjoyed at this moment and will stay so for a long time.

New Projects and Voting

Here is a sweater I just had to make. Its from Lion Brand and is called "Garter Swing Sweater" I casted on about 2 wks ago using Plymouth Encore Worsted Weight. I had like 13 skeins of this in my spare room and was using it for another sweater that I just fell out of love with. So I decided to use it for this. Its working out pretty well and if I just work on it more it may be done for Christmas. The reason why I love this sweater is because its so simple and I can work on it while watching tv. The only thing I dread is the sleeves. I hate doing sleeves.

I saw this on "Knit and Crochet Today" on pbs and thought it would look good in some fall colors. I really don't like grannies, but these I can live with. I've made 4 so far and it calls for 35. Grannies are way too simple. I plan on making 7 then join them weave in the ends then work on another 7 and so on until I have 5 rows (joining the rows as I go) then I can work on the border. I plan on making one in purple hues for my mom and after that one in winter colors for myself. I am using the suggested yarn, Red Heart. I am still amazed when a corner pops up. That is so cool.
I also made another Simple Seamed hat, but in the round for a co-worker. I made this out of Lamb's Pride. I am also working on a garter stitch scarf for a classmate for purchase. I hope to have this thing finished soon. Maybe I will take it with me to stand in line to vote tomorrow. They say the lines will be long. I usually get out early to vote, like right when the place opens up. Its going to be interesting to see if the line at my voting place is LONG at 6 or 7 am.

How Cute

When I saw this on my igoogle page this morning I just had to share this with you all. its just the cutest thing. I just wish my adult cat would wear his sweater that I painstakinly made him. He wiggles his way out of it every chance he gets.
In knitting news, I finally picked up a project I started on as a beginner knitter (2005). Its from Knit 1 magazine the men's issue. Its called, "Muff with Straps" and its made out of 2 balls of Lion Brand Glitterspun and 3 balls of Lion Brand Festive Fur. I love Glitterspun its so cute and nice to work with. I wish I could say the same for the Festive Fur. Its cute too, but not a joy to work with. I'll think twice before making another muff any time soon. I really promise to have pics up soon when my computer stops acting up.

My B-Day and Reflections

Yeah, its my b-day today and also my 1 yr anniversary on Blogger. I'm 29 and don't live in fear of the big 3-0. I've enjoyed blogging this past year. I love to express myself and this gives me the perfect platform.
The pic on the above is what I was doing Saturday with my best-friend and her peoples. Sunday I went to the Renaissance Festival for the first time and trust me I will be going every year now. I had so much fun. My boy-toy bought me a sheepskin journal, a corset, and I bought myself a coyote tail. I even got the chance to talk to a dear friend who works there, Lynne W. She's been working the festival for some years now and she helps sale custom fitted corsets for Renaissance Fashions. I love their corsets and even though they are expensive I plan on getting 1 or 2 a yr.
Well heres to me, myself, and I !

Tilted

I am so happy to be making this. I'm on the left front panel and can't wait to do the skirt and collar. As I was working on the right panel I thought it was a mistake in the pattern, but after looking at how the collar was made I figured that there wasn't a mistake. This is very easy and I haven't made a mistake yet. (Happy dance!!!!!!)
Justine was put on the back burner, but I will be pulling her back out to finish for my b-day which is in 2wks. Hopefully, it will be nice enough to wear. If not I can wear my duster even though the dress/skirt is a light gray and the duster is a medium blue. LOL!!!!!
I'm debating on the Hemlock Ring Blanket. It scares me a bit when you get to his increases. I probably will still try it though. I may try to start that in November.

Spring Into Fall

I just finished this beret. Its called "Spring Beret" and I found it on Ravelry. I used about 2.5 balls of Bernat Handicrafter Cotton yarn and size 8 and 9 circular needles. This is an easy project and should only take a day, but it took me a while because I started on a work day then had to frog it because I forgot to switch needles after the 1x1 ribbing. (I blame the Olympics for this.) I plan to get some good wear out of it from now to the start of fall.

Now my next project is the "Tilted Duster" from the 2007 Fall issue of Interweave Knits. I've wanted to make it since then, but it looked hard. I just casted on and read the pattern. It doesn't seem that hard. Wish me luck in finishing this in time for fall.

WIP Wrestling Finishline

OMG!!!! I finished 1 of my wip's for the Ravelympics and got my medal. It feels so good to finish the Crochet Entrelac Wrap. I may make another, but not right now. Now for the Lacy Days of Summer dress. I hope to finish this today or tomorrow. I'll load up some pics by the end of the week.

SWEET VICTORY!!!!!

I Took A Quiz

And guess what the results were:

you are lightcyan
#E0FFFF

Your dominant hues are green and blue. You're smart and you know it, and want to use your power to help people and relate to others. Even though you tend to battle with yourself, you solve other people's conflicts well.

Your saturation level is very low - you have better things to do than jump headfirst into every little project. You make sure your actions are going to really accomplish something before you start because you hate wasting energy making everyone else think you're working.

Your outlook on life is very bright. You are sunny and optimistic about life and others find it very encouraging, but remember to tone it down if you sense irritation.

Ravelympics

Yes I have joined the many ranks of ravelers in the Ravelympics. I have entered one event, WIPs Wrestling. I have like 4 projects that need to be finished before people beat me up. So this will be a good time to do so.
Projects :
Entrelac Wrap - Crochet
Classic Sweater for Guys - Knit
Lacy Days of Summer - Crochet
Textured Blanket - Crochet
I hope to cross the finish line, Aug. 24th, with all projects complete. Even with the ends weaved in.
Justina is practically finished. Just have to do the back waist and put it together and sew on buttons. I know I will have to line it so I will be looking for fabric. At least I know I will wear it in August. I'll try to have some pics soon.

More Knits

Hey everyone! This is my new project. The Justina skirt from Berroco. I saw it on "my life in stitches" and fell in love. I don't think I even saw this before while checking their website. Then again I don't really look for skirts there. Anyway, I love it and find it very easy. And when things are this easy I make many mistakes. Hopefully, it turns out the way I like it. I'll put a pic of my progress up later.

I am also working on a wavy tube top from here. I'm using Bernat's cotton and its pretty good. I hope to finish this soon. Its also easy. I've never done this wave pattern before, but its going well.

I also start classes today, but I will keep you all posted on my progress in knitting and crochet.

Flowers and Projects

These are the flowers I received on Administrative Assistant Day. I was so thrilled to get them. This is the first year I ever celebrated it. I really didn't expect to get anything. They even gave us a continental breakfast and a candy apple. Then it was back to work as usual.

Everyone is coming to my desk to see these flowers and giving advice on how to take care of them. I just hope no one tries to steal them. They may get kidnapped any day now.

This is the front of my babydoll from "Crochet Me". I think it is really turning out well. I want to finish it in another week or so so I can move on to the Geometry Dress in new issue of "Interweave Crochet".

This is the back.

I hope everyone is enjoying some good weather. Its perfect here in the "D". Unfortunately, I hear that the temp will go done to the 60's, but it beats 40 as a high.

Star Day at City Knits

After shopping around for yarn for my new winter hat, "The Schwartz Hat" from the movie
"Christmas Story" ( I found the pattern here) I got the chance to sit and chat with none other than Brett Bara, editor of "Crochet Today" magazine and Candi Jenson, author.

Above is Candi signing a book for JoAnne. Unfortunately, I didn't catch her in the photo. Candi is such a nice person. She explained how her "Crochet Bags, Crochet Hats, Crochet Scarves" books were all die-cut and were done by hand in China. Its one of the better jobs there because the room they work in is air-conditioned. We all felt bad and she didn't want to have here books done that way, but they explained to her that its providing a very good income for the workers and like I said before its air-conditioned and considered a better job.

This is Bret listening to a story along with a customer of CK (City Knits). I find that like Candi, Brett also is easy going. She explained that new episodes of "Knit and Crochet Today" will be airing this September. (Check your local Public Television listings) Its currently not being showed because they are shooting new episodes.
I enjoyed talking to them and having my books signed by Candi and my magazine signed by Brett. I can't wait for the new episodes to come on. But, until then I have my magazines and Candi Jenson books to read.

I was invited!!!!!!

This is a very quick and short post to inform you all that I am officially on ravelry. I was debating whether or not to join, but I finally made the decision and I am so very happy I did. I am enjoying setting it up and adding friends. One of whom is the very own Vickie Howell of Knitty Gritty fame. I love that show and can't wait for it to have new shows on DIY Network. If you have not visited ravelry or joined I think you should. It is such fun.
I promise pics on the next post.

Cables and more cables

This was the cutest thing I found on the net. It is a cabled wallet and I found the pattern at: craftingcasualty.blogspot.com
I used Encore worsted and I really like how it came out. I borrowed a button from my mom's sewing box and I think it looks ok. It only took me a couple of hours to make seeing that I started it at work and didn't have a cable needle with me. How did I make this lovely cable you ask? I used a handy dandy straw. Yes, a straw. Go figure. It held up beautifully.

This is the tank top from Creative Knitting. I love the Gems "Opal". It does work up nicely. And my stitch markers I got from Etsy are real cool. I finally got a chance to use them and I am so happy. This pattern is so easy. I'm already up to the straps and I just started last week. Now my next project will come from "Crochet Me" and its the nice tunic in Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece. Can't wait to start that.

To Die for Projects

The new Vogue Knitting magazine came out for Spring/Summer and I saw this dress in it and said, "I am so making this for when I get married". How can you resist this dress or the shrug or the cardigan? But, the dress had me drooling the most. I hurried to the book store and bought it. I haven't bought the yarn for it, yet. Its lace done with a DK weight yarn. Just have to make this bloody thing.

To the right is the very next project I will be working on. I bought some Opal "Gems" yarn in "Robin" and hopefully things work out for me. I just love this tank. I don't know about the edging. I will try it and see if I actually can deal with it.

A short obsession

I saw this bag when I recently checked out the Namaste website and fell in love. I ordered mine from Ewe Need Yarn and those ladies sent it so fast. I got it yesterday, February 4th and just stared at it for a long time. I could not believe I actually had it. I have the executive in turquoise and love it. I may buy another Malibu bag in turquoise. (key word . . . may)
I haven't been knitting or crocheting for a while. I did start the entrelac wrap from the Jan/Feb edition of Crochet Today Magazine. I just have to weave in the ends and do the trim. I bought yarn for the Dawta from Afya Ibomu's "Get Your Crochet On: Book 2". I can't wait to work on that, but it will have to be a while I haven't been in the mood to do crafting and my nephew's b-day is today so.....I'll be busy this week.
Also, I broke down and bought a 13 set of sz 1-11 knitting needles off of ebay. I hope to get them later this week. Can't have enough needles, huh?
